Duties and Responsibilities:
Launches, coxswains, recovers, washes down with freshwater, and fuels inventory of watercraft.
Storages watercraft on trailers when not in use.
Maintains boats on station in heavy current and windy conditions while deploying and recovering divers, and as required, navigates using GPS and RADAR, and operates a Tug Technologies MR 10-34T Boat Tug and Hyster H40XM 4,000 lb. forklift.
Assists instructors with teaching watercraft familiarization to students, which consists of supervised launch and recovery techniques and basic boat coxswain skills.
Uses the Navy 3M Program and OEM specification to perform and document routine preventative and corrective maintenance on engines, watercraft, and trailers.
Supports preparing up to five watercraft, trailers and equipment for highway transit to the remote site.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum a USCG National Master of Self-propelled Vessels of Less Than 25 GRT Upon Near Coastal Waters endorsement
Three years of recent small boat coxswain experience OR three years recent experience in a Navy or Coast Guard deck rating with small boat coxswain qualifications
Within 30 days of starting command coxswain qualification consisting of the following requirements: complete qualification card, pass the Third and Second Class Swim test or present an STCW A-VI/1 Certificate of Completion, demonstrate coxswain proficiency through underway observations for each type of watercraft, and successfully pass an oral board must be completed. The Government administered swim tests consist of a deep water jump from a minimum height of 5 feet, remain afloat for 5 minutes, swims of 50 and 100 yards respectively; using the crawl, breast, sidestroke and/or backstroke, and in-water shirt and trouser inflation for a makeshift personal flotation device
Familiarity with inventory of watercraft for US Navy, USMC, and USAF training evolutions which includes 38’ aluminum hard-hulled boats, 27’ fiberglass boats, and a mix of center consoles, cabins, and inflatable boats (e.g., MK V Zodiac). The watercraft have assorted outboard engines from 50 to 300 HP.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DBIDs credential
Fluent in English (writing, reading, and speaking)
Familiar in the use of SKED and 3M 301 Maintenance Person Fundamentals and Tasks
Experience repairing and maintaining outboard motors
Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms
Regular Communication (hearing and speaking)
Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting of heavy objects
Ability to go aboard ships, barges, boats, and other naval craft
Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways onboard ships
Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs.
Ability to wear a face covering while at work
Some travel may be required
