Duties

Summary

This position is located at Army Lodging, Tower Barracks (Grafenwoehr).

Responsibilities

Operate heavy powered equipment performing tasks that require prior work experience and training.

Such tasks include ground maintenance on grades and slopes, digging ditches and trenches, washing buildings using high pressure sprayers, operating tillers to prepare lawns for sod and bedding plants, and cutting trees using axes or chain saws.

Performs general maintenance of NAF facilities requiring use of heavy powered equipment and heavy tools. Breaks up concrete, mixes and pours concrete and asphalt

Resets nails, replaces hardware, relocate playgrounds, flowerbeds and portable structures. Advises facility director of potential safety hazards and identifies repairs required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license.

A one year probationary period may be required

Completed and signed DA Form 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty

Requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing over 50 pounds, operating heavy powered mowers on grades or pushing wheelbarrow loads of cement, etc. Required to stand, walk, bend and kneel for lengthy periods of time.

Works indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions when working outdoors. Exposed to drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. Possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes.

Required to follow safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, and safety glasses and exercise proper handling of equipment to avoid serious injury in the work area.

Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2. Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a CAC for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.

Must be able to work rotating shift, to include evenings, weekends and holidays.

In consideration of COVID-19, personnel within this area routinely wear personal protective equipment (cloth face coverings, latex gloves, and/or face shields) while performing their regular duties.

Qualifications

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the processes, which require remembering directions and/or sequences be, required (e.g., mixing cement). Knowledge and skill in the operation, control, and cleaning of heavy, power equipment (single-function power lawn mowers with one or more cutting decks and mechanical controls, chain saws, jackhammers). Knowledge to work safely with heavy tools (axes, picks, tampers, chain saws, etc). Skill in performing routine operator maintenance and adjusting the cutting height of blades of power mowers or in operating weight handling devises when moving heavy loads.
