This position will be based within the Microbiome Research Centre (MRC), UNSW St George & Sutherland Clinical School. Established in 2017, the MRC is Australia’s first research centre solely dedicated to studying the microbiota in health and disease. Researchers within the MRC integrate basic science and translational medicine, and harness powerful multi-omic approaches such as genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and microbiomics as well as bioinformatics to answer pertinent questions on the microbiome.

The Opportunity

Fixed term, Full-Time position until 31st Dec 2021

$87K – $104K (+ 9.5% superannuation & leave loading)

Based at St George & Sutherland Clinical School, Kogarah

The Research Officer will be responsible for the management and site coordination of the microbiome related studies including patient management in designated NSW Local Health Districts. The position will involve direct contact with pre-conception women and their partners, pregnant women, and newborns, as well as interaction with doctors, midwives, allied health and associated researchers. The Research Officer will also provide technical and administrative research assistance to senior research staff in activities associated with the research projects. This position will include state-wide travel, not only covering study sites within the Sydney metropolitan region, but also other participating sites within NSW.

The role will be offered either at Level 6 or 7 depending on skills and experience. At level 6 the position holder will have a relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience in a relevant field (medical science, nursing, midwifery), or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with demonstrated clinical experience in screening and clinical management of vulnerable patient groups, such as pregnant women, their newborns and/or paediatrics. In addition to the above, at level 7 the position holder will have demonstrated senior clinical experience in screening and clinical management of vulnerable patient groups, such as pregnant women, their newborns and/or paediatrics, with experience in a research setting in an educational or hospital environment.
