About Evansville State Hospital:
Evansville State Hospital is one of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospitals who are committed to the mission of Hope and Recovery. Residing on 88 acres on the east side of Evansville, Ind., our facility provides medical treatment for chronic mental illness and substance abuse disorders from our dedicated team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Active Treatment helps our patients achieve their goals directed towards living in the most non-restrictive environment possible. Our team of professionals assist our patients in the treatment process involving medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy and our community integration program. Evansville State Hospital continues to maintain accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services certification as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.
About the Job:
The Psychiatric Services Specialist (Social Worker) provides advanced psychiatric social work to patients at a state operated facility providing administrative and consultative functions.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Serves as social worker and/or case manager as assigned;
Completes social services assessments with patients;
Maintains a caseload of patients providing pre-admission evaluations, progress notes, consultations with families, and daily patient consultations.
Completes release of information forms (advanced directives, human rights, and HIPAA release forms) with the patient or other patient guardian/representative;
Presents patient cases at treatment team meetings or patient staffing identifying problems and treatment approaches and leading meetings to the successful development of treatment plans;
Prepares discharge plans in collaboration with mental health centers, family or representative;
Assists patients in developing community living skills;
Promotes continuing care in communities through comprehensive discharge planning;
Consults with and visits various other social service agencies to assist in individual care and to develop and maintain ongoing working relationships;
May provide administrative support in absence of Social Services Director;

What we are looking for:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. (Major in Social Work); PLUS two (2) years of full-time experience in a psychiatric, group, medical, children, family or correctional setting;
Preferred LSW and/or LCSW
What you need for success:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. (Major in Social Work, or a related area required); PLUS two (2) years of full-time experience in a psychiatric, group, medical, children, family or correctional setting;
Completion of necessary continuing education training, certifications and/or licensure requirements;
AVATAR software system and Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment (ANSA) certification required;
Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of social work and recovery;
Specialized knowledge of laws, rules, regulations and guidelines for the care, treatment and rights of those with mental illness and developmental delay;
Specialized knowledge of case management, assessment and continuum of care;
Practical knowledge of community social services agencies and the ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with them;
Working knowledge of other treatment disciplines such as: rehabilitation therapy, psychology, dietetics and nursing and the ability to integrate these while discharge planning;
Working knowledge of causes, symptoms and limitations of various mental disabilities;
Ability to evaluate patient needs, document progress and record/update treatment plans;
Ability to resolve conflict and work as an integral part of a treatment team;
Current knowledge of service line policies and procedures, hospital Bridge Building and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques;
Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
